Affordability & Texas Kitchen Table

Washington Talks About the Economy — Texans Live It.

Government measures the economy in trillions of dollars. Texas families measure it differently.

They measure it at the grocery store. At the gas pump.

When the mortgage or rent is due. When the electric bill arrives.

When the insurance renewal comes. When somebody gets sick.

When they look at what's left in the checking account at the end of the month.

That is why Avery Ayers is making affordability the centerpiece of his campaign for the United States Senate.

The Texas Kitchen Table

Before supporting major economic legislation, Congress should answer a basic question:

Will this make the Texas household stronger or weaker?

The Texas Kitchen Table Agenda focuses on ten household pressures.

01

Groceries

Support competition, American agriculture and resilient supply chains while identifying unnecessary federal costs that ultimately reach consumers.

02

Housing

Promote homeownership, housing supply and responsible policies that help first-time buyers without creating another housing bubble.

03

Homeowners Insurance

Catastrophic-risk markets, insurance competition, fraud and other factors can contribute to escalating homeowner costs. Homeowners insurance deserves particular attention: Texans carry one of the country's highest homeowners insurance burdens.

04

Electricity & Energy

Reliable energy is an affordability issue. Support American energy production, natural gas, nuclear power, renewables and a reliable electrical grid.

05

Healthcare

Demand greater price transparency, stronger competition and lower prescription-drug costs while protecting patients from unexpected medical expenses.

06

Transportation

Energy and transportation policy should recognize what working families actually pay to commute, operate businesses and move goods.

07

Taxes

Working- and middle-income Americans should be able to keep more of what they earn while Washington confronts wasteful spending and the national debt.

08

Small Business

Small businesses create jobs, strengthen communities and provide economic mobility. Reduce unnecessary federal bureaucracy and help Texas entrepreneurs access capital, technology, apprenticeships and AI productivity tools.

09

Seniors, Social Security & Medicare

Protect the retirement security Americans spent their working lives earning while confronting these programs' long-term financial challenges honestly. Washington cannot permanently spend money it doesn't have. Congress needs stronger fiscal discipline, meaningful oversight and accountability for waste.

10

Veterans

America's commitment to veterans doesn't end when the uniform comes off. Improve access to healthcare, employment, housing assistance and transition services.

Building the future

Opportunity, security and Texas leadership.

11

Artificial Intelligence & the American Worker

America must lead the AI revolution, but American workers must participate in the prosperity it creates. Promote AI education, workforce retraining, apprenticeships and responsible innovation.
12

Data Center Developers & Local Texas Communities

  • Require a 30-day local public-comment period for upcoming data-center construction projects and land purchases in Texas.
  • Require data centers to hire from the local area and prohibit H-1B visa employees.
  • Require data centers to build water-recycling facilities for wastewater and byproducts.
  • Power rules: Projects needing more than 25 megawatts must source electricity from new power supplies, including clean energy.
  • Ratepayer protection: Developers must pay for their own energy needs instead of shifting costs to local utility customers.
  • Tax ties: State tax exemptions or incentives require formal compliance with environmental and community rules.

As demand for artificial intelligence and data-center infrastructure grows, these guardrails will help Texas remain competitive while protecting ratepayers, local communities, workers and the environment.

13

Education & Workforce Development

College should not be presented as the only road to success. Expand access to skilled trades, apprenticeships, technical education and career-ready training.
14

Public Safety & Second Chances

Support law enforcement and safe communities while recognizing that people who have served their sentences and genuinely rebuilt their lives should have meaningful opportunities to become productive citizens.
15

Constitutional Freedoms

Defend freedom of speech, religious liberty, due process and the constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans. No Sharia law in America.
16

American Leadership

Maintain a strong military, support America's service members and pursue foreign policy that protects American security and interests.
17

Jobs of the Future

Make Texas America's leader in artificial intelligence, energy, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity and skilled trades. Technology should create opportunity for American workers—not simply eliminate American jobs. Reduce H-1B visa use by hiring Texans first.

Why Write-In?

What if neither political party speaks for you?

The bottom line

A growing economy means little if ordinary Texans cannot afford to participate in it.

Avery's economic test is simple:

Can you afford your home? Can you afford your groceries? Can you afford healthcare? Can you afford to raise your family? Can you save for retirement? Can your children still afford the American Dream?

That is the economy Avery Ayers wants Washington talking about.
